At Abbey House dental practice here in Staffordshire, we carry out both cosmetic and general dentistry. While dental implants are often considered an aesthetic choice, there are lots of great reasons to have the treatment – and not just cosmetic.
In this post, we’ll go through our top 5 benefits for having tooth implants, shedding some light on the procedure along the way, and helping to dispel some of those all-to-common myths.
Tooth implants are known for being great mimics of natural teeth. First of all, dental implants are durable – typically made of high-quality porcelain, with an aluminium rod to fix them in place. Secondly, they’re realistic-looking – they’re designed to blend in with your smile and it’s likely that most people won’t be able to tell you have them.
Because they are just like your real teeth, dental implants need great care to keep them looking and acting their best. That means brushing and flossing twice a day and having regular check-ups at our dental practice.
When you lose teeth, you can also experience bone loss, because there’s no longer something rooted to your jaw. Having a tooth implant placed can help negate this, because the titanium rod part of the implant is drilled into your jaw. Infections around dental implants are also usually quite rare, even when the healing process of having the rod part inserted can take several months.
As well as transforming your smile, dental implants can also help improve the structure of the face – particularly in cases where missing teeth has caused hollowing or sagging of the skin around the mouth.
Because dental implants are fixed in place, and behave just as your natural teeth do, you shouldn’t experience any adverse effects with eating or speaking. While we do recommend that you avoid staining foods or drinks (e.g. coffee) to keep your tooth implants looking their best, you won’t necessarily need to avoid anything that’s crunchy or stay away from the toffees.
While not strictly about dental implants themselves, our final point is how easy the process is – and we at Abbey House dental practice, Staffordshire are here to help!
